Inside A Google Data Center
Google provided a look inside its data center operations at the Google Data Center Efficiency Summit held Wednesday in Mountain View, Calif. The presentations included a video tour of a Google data center, which showcased the companys use of shipping containers to store servers and storage. Each of these 40-foot data center containers can house up to 1,160 servers, and Google has been using them since it began building its own facilities in 2005. The company will post complete videos from the event next week. See DataCenterKnowledge.com for more coverage.

Smarter Planet meets GREEN IT for Big Energy Savings
We used IBM Tivoli Energy Management to monitor energy consumption of an IBM p570 Server with 16 CPUs. See how proper DB2 LUW database tuning can lower energy costs by 24-44% or more, improve ability to optimize existing IT assets, avoid or defer hardware upgrades, dramatically cut software licensing costs by over $1.3M in a sample scenario, and improve productivity and profitability by reducing response times by over 99%. Watch how this server struggles to support 50 users at 100% CPU busy, then minutes later easily supports 743 users at 11% CPU busy. DBI's Brother-Panther for DB2 LUW Performance Monitoring, Tuning, and Trending is used to obtain these outstanding performance results! DBI Software is an ISV that provides automated performance management and auditing software solutions for IBM DB2 LUW and Oracle databases.
